What people actually call about

  1. 01Lost power to a light, outlet or applianceA tripped device, a failed connection at a back-stab terminal, or a break upstream — one room narrows it fast
  2. 02Flickering lights or intermittent loss of powerOne fixture: the fixture or its switch. Several rooms at once: a loose neutral or a failing main connection
  3. 03Circuit breaker tripping frequentlyAn overloaded circuit, or a real fault on it. Repeated resetting is the unsafe part
  4. 04Frequent electrical surgesUsually something on the circuit rather than the grid — a motor load, or a damaged conductor
  5. 05Lights too bright or too dimClassic loose-neutral signature when it moves between rooms as loads change
  6. 06High electrical billRarely the wiring — normally a load running longer than anyone thinks, and worth measuring before rewiring
  7. 07Lights burning out too quicklyOver-voltage, a fixture running hot, or a dimmer that predates the bulbs
  8. 08Strange smell coming from the outletStop using it. That smell is heat at a connection and it does not improve on its own
  9. 09A receptacle warm to the touchA loose termination or a device carrying more than it is rated for
  10. 10GFCI receptacle will not resetEither a genuine fault downstream or a failed device — and the GFCI protecting it is often in another room

Ten faults, and what each one usually turns out to be

This list is Golden Leaf's own — it is published on their troubleshooting page as the faults they get called out for. What their page does not say is what each one tends to mean once someone is standing in front of it. That is the part worth knowing before you pick up the phone, and it is true whether or not you call them.

We had a list of small repair items. Chris did a great job diagnosing issues and repairing – mostly light switches. Also fixed two outdoor “safety” lights. He explained everything as he went along, and the price was reasonable. Highly recommend this company and Chris!

Since 2005

Twenty-one years of other people's wiring

Golden Leaf Electrical has been working across Metro Vancouver since 2005 — long enough that the neighbourhoods on their list are not a marketing radius but a record of where they have actually been. Nineteen cities, from Steveston Village and Ironwood in Richmond out to Maple Ridge, Mission and Abbotsford.

They describe themselves as a small, locally owned business, and as a 100% BC owned and operated provider of quality electrical services to residential and commercial customers in British Columbia. Their team is employed rather than subcontracted, their service trucks are cell-phone dispatched, and their vans carry thousands of quality electrical parts so that most jobs finish on the first visit rather than the second.

The thing they are proudest of is the one they say most often, on every page: a Lifetime Workmanship Guarantee on all labour performed by their team. If work they did fails because of how it was done, they come back and repair it at no cost — with no end date on the offer. In a trade where the warranty usually expires long before the wiring does, that is an unusual thing to put in writing.

What they do beyond the four services above

Their published menu is wider than the pages here. These are theirs, in their own terms.

Security systems
Complete surveillance systems, motion-sensor activated alarms and outdoor cameras with remote viewing, plus motion-activated entry lighting and landscape lighting. They will inspect the area and plan a layout specific to the property rather than sell a kit.
Flatscreen & home theatre
Wall-mounted televisions with the cabling concealed in the wall, in-wall speakers and sound bars, and ceiling-mounted projectors. They quote it up front like everything else.
Commercial work
Electrical code corrections, new building construction and maintenance, and dedicated circuitry — they describe having worked on thousands of commercial projects with property management companies.
24/7 emergency
A published emergency line running outside the weekday office hours, for the faults that cannot wait — power outages, hot service panels, and strange odours from breaker panels and outlets.

The IKEA kitchens

One credential here is not self-reported, which is rare enough to be worth its own panel.

Their claim
Golden Leaf Electrical Services Ltd. state they have formed a strong relationship with Modus Enterprises Inc., IKEA Canada's official kitchen installation and planning service providers, and that to uphold the reputation of such a powerful name they recognise there is absolutely no room for error.
A customer's version of the same fact
A homeowner who had never heard of them wrote, unprompted: her kitchen was renovated by Modus, the contractor IKEA works with, Modus arranged for Golden Leaf to do the electrical work, and to her that was already a vote of confidence — because Modus has steady work coming from IKEA and so probably chooses contractors carefully.
Why it matters
A trade partner with a national brand to protect chose them, repeatedly, and a customer noticed and said so independently. That is a stronger signal than any badge a company can award itself — and on their own website it currently sits at the bottom of a gallery page that shows no photographs.

Their own customers keep naming the person who showed up — Chris, Peter, Miro, and Yvonne who booked it — and then asking for them again by name.

What neighbours say

I needed help on two different occasions for small electrical repair jobs. I am so happy with both results. Chris is professional, knowledgeable, pleasant, and was able to diagnose and fix both issues quickly. As a senior living on my own I felt extremely confident that the job would be estimated fairly and done professionally. After my initial contact with the company one of my jobs was done on the same day I called in. I also want to mention that I really appreciate that this company will do smaller jobs. From my first call to Golden Leaf to the completion of the job it was a great experience and I was kept in the loop from start to finish. Oh…..and a great seniors discount!!!

We recently had our kitchen renovated by Modus, which is the contractor IKEA works with. Modus arranged for Goldleaf to do the electrical work. To us, that was already a vote of confidence for Goldleaf; Modus has steady work coming from IKEA, so probably chooses contractors carefully. Chris from Goldleaf didn't disappoint. He was professional and did a great job. We're very happy with his work. Bonus: he was on time each time he visited. I have no reservations in recommending Chris from Goldleaf.

One of their own electricians, in a stocked van. Golden Leaf employ their team rather than subcontracting the work out, and their customers tend to name the person who came — Chris, Peter, Miro — and then ask for them again by name the next time. Their own reviews are full of exactly that.

  • I recently hired Golden Leaf Electrical to do some work on my kitchen renovation. I was highly impressed with their organization, professionalism and service. Everything was on time, on budget and very well done. Miro, in particular, did an amazing job. I would highly recommend Golden Leaf.

  • I am very pleased with Gold Leaf Electrical. Peter has come twice now to do two separate jobs for me, some outlet upgrades and ballast work. He is very well informed of his work, works promptly, is very courteous and polite and arrived on time. His quotes are always accurate. I requested him this past time and will continue to do so again. Thanks again Peter!!

  • When a fire forced us to do a fast reno, we couldn't wait for "affordable" friends. It was also crucial that work be done to code. We chose GLE as they were readily available. Peter arrived on time, provided the promised quote (reasonable), and got to work. He was courteous and had additional good ideas.

  • I needed a bathroom fan installed and I called Golden Leaf to book an appointment. They had an elect rician in my area able to come later that afternoon! The electrician gave me a fair priced estimate and went ahead with the work right away. Very polite people, good service and got the work done in a time efficient manner! Would recommend.
